BURNSVILLE, Minn. — An early Tuesday morning blaze destroyed at least three units of a Burnsville apartment building, police said.
In all, 45 units of a building in The Observatory apartments, 1511 Greenhaven Drive, were evacuated. Police spokesman Rory Bochniak said he was unsure when residents would be able to return.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 6:47 a.m. and arrived to see fire on the first-, second- and third-floor balconies, which are vertically stacked. They attacked the fire from the exterior before moving inside.
No residents were injured in the fire, but two firefighters were hurt when a ceiling collapsed on them. They were treated and released on the scene.
Bochniak said it took several hours to extinguish the flames, and that Savage and Lakeville fire departments assisted.
Displaced residents are being helped by the Red Cross and Salvation Army.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
