HOUMA, La. — A fire-rescue vehicle en route to an emergency crashed into a Tommy’s taxi cab at a busy Houma intersection at about 6:40 p.m. Friday night, a collision that left the car’s driver dead, authorities said.

The Bayou Cane Volunteer Fire truck was on its way to another wreck on Hollywood Road, its lights flashing and sirens wailing, about 7 p.m. when it struck the cab at the intersection of West Tunnel Boulevard and South Hollywood Road, authorities said.

Louisiana State Police Lt. Kevin Marcel said the Bayou Cane fireman driving the vehicle, identified as Cody Hebert, 23, of Pierre Part, was driving north on Tunnel Boulevard when he saw that traffic at the intersection was backed up.
