NEW YORK — Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano, FDNY members and their families joined in the 7th Annual Father Mychal F. Judge Walk of Remembrance on Sept. 6, honoring the FDNY Chaplain who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
The day began with a rosary and mass in Father Judge’s honor at St. Francis of Assisi Church on West 31st Street in Manhattan. Following the mass, the three-mile walk began at the nearby quarters of Engine 1/Ladder 24 and continued down Seventh Avenue, ending at St. Peter’s Church near the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan.
The annual walk retraces Father Judge’s final journey to the World Trade Center on the day of the attacks. Father Judge, an FDNY Chaplain since 1994, was 68 years old when he died while administering last rites at the World Trade Center. He was the first officially recorded fatality of the September 11th attacks.
