NEW YORK — The Fire Department poured cold water on a steamy charity calendar featuring photographs of shirtless firefighters after learning that one of its stars had also appeared nude in a “Guys Gone Wild” video.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta on Friday informed the charity that produces the calendar that it will no longer allow firefighters to participate, a department spokesman said.

The decision was made after the department learned that the cover boy for the 2008 “Calendar of Heroes,” a firefighter with a ladder company in Brooklyn, had also appeared naked in a salacious 2004 DVD.

The “Guys Gone Wild” video was unrelated to the calendar, but Fire Officials apparently decided the publication was compromising its reputation.

The annual calendar is published by the FDNY Fire Foundation, which annually raised about $150,000 per year for department equipment and training.

The foundation’s executive director, Jean O’Shea, told the Daily News that he accepted the decision.

“We’re disappointed, but the department’s reputation is more important than raising money,” O’Shea said.
