Fire breaks out at Detroit auto supplier

The Associated Press

ECORSE, Mich.- Fire broke out at an automotive coatings plant in this Detroit suburb, police said. No injuries were reported.

People living near the Crown Group facility were not ordered to leave their homes Tuesday night, police said. But police said authorities went door-to-door to ask them to close their windows and doors and to shut off their air conditioning.

Firefighters from about a half-dozen communities worked to put out the fire, which was reported about 7 p.m. EDT, police said. The cause was not immediately known.

According to Crown Group’s Web site, the company provides electrocoating for exterior trim, bumpers, roof racks, towing components and underhood and chassis assemblies.

Ecorse is located on the Detroit River about five miles south of downtown Detroit.
