Fire erupts at Ill. industrial plant

The Associated Press

BELLWOOD, Ill. — A fire erupted Wednesday at an industrial plant just west of Chicago, prompting officials to evacuate area businesses and call more than a dozen fire departments to help battle the smoky blaze.

Four people were taken to Loyola University Medical Center with injuries, but no further details were released.

Rich Blass, a spokesman for the village, said there were reports of hazardous materials at Universal Form Clamp Co., including propane. He said the fire was reported about 10 a.m.

Universal Form manufacturers construction materials and has facilities around the country. A worker reached at the company headquarters in Bellwood declined to comment.
