CHICAGO — A Chicago Fire Department lieutenant was injured early Tuesday while fighting what police said was arson in a home on Chicago’s Far South Side.
The blaze was set just before 12:15 a.m. in the attic of a 1 1/2-story building in the 11700 block of South Sangamon Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, authorities said.
The building occupants had already escaped when firefighters arrived on the scene, but a fire lieutenant who helped battle the blaze injured his back and was taken to a hospital. He was listed in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn Tuesday morning, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.
The police bomb and arson section is investigating the fire, but police declined to provide further information.
There had been no arrests as of Tuesday morning.
