Firefighter loses home, dog in Minn. fire

The local fire department will open a benefit fund for the family of volunteer firefighter Jerry Waltman after their house was destroyed

TAYLORS FALLS, Minn. — Firefighters were working on the home of one of their own early Sunday when a house burned in Taylors Falls.

The family of volunteer firefighter Jerry Waltman lost their home and their dog.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Clasen told KARE-TV the call came in at 2:15 a.m. and the firefighters realized they were at Waltman’s home when they pulled into the driveway.

Clasen said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and was a total loss. The cause is under investigation.

Waltman, his wife and three children were out of town when the fire started. Clasen said the Waltman’s dog died in the fire.

Clasen said the department will open a benefit fund for the family today.
