NEW YORK — Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire for about an hour Thursday at the renowned Plaza Hotel.
The blaze, in a stairwell between the second and third floors of the 20-story hotel, was reported at 11:15 a.m. and put under control at 12:14 p.m., said Fire Department spokesman Charles Markey.
About 100 firefighters worked at the scene. The Plaza, at the edge of Central Park, is being renovated and partly turned into condominiums.
