A man and his seven-year-old son were found dead inside a Sunrise home this afternoon, apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police were called to the home in the 1000 block of Northwest 133rd Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. They noticed the strong odor of vehicle exhaust coming from the garage.

Sunrise firefighters towed a car out of the garage. Inside they found the father, 37, and the boy, both dead.

Sunrise police had not yet identified the victims late this afternoon, because they were still trying to notify relatives. But police did say the man was a Plantation volunteer firefighter and that he lived at the house with the boy, his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s daughter.

The girlfriend is a paramedic for the Tamarac fire department, police said.

The son suffered from a disability and used a wheelchair.
