GWINETT COUNTY, Ga. — A fast-moving thunderstorm sent lightning strikes onto at least five Gwinnett County homes and kept firefighters busy late Tuesday.
One family was displaced because of a house fire caused by lightning, said Capt. Craig Stanley of the Gwinnett fire department.
That fire occurred at 1290 Beeblossom Trail in Lawrenceville when lightning struck near the chimney, Stanley said. The blaze moved into the attic of the two-story home, Stanley said. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes.
Nobody was injured. The family was being assisted by the Red Cross.
Fire personnel responded late Tuesday to numerous storm-related calls on downed trees and power lines.
“We were very busy,” Stanley said. “It seemed for several hours every one of our units were either responding to or coming back from calls.”
Gwinnett could be in line for more thunderstorms tonight and Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.
