KEARNEY, Neb. — Ground will be broken this week on the Nebraska Firefighters Museum and Education Center at Kearney.

The museum will sit next to the Great Platte River Road Archway Museum.

The groundbreaking is set for Friday.

Project development chairman Gregg Ericksen says construction of the 10,000 square-foot museum and center is expected to be completed by spring.

The new facility will be modeled after a turn-of-the-century fire station and will feature display space, offices, a gift shop, conference room and party room.

Ericksen says the museum will include historical displays of trucks and equipment, as well as educational displays on fire safety.
