HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Survivors of a 1977 night club fire near Cincinnati that killed 165 people plan to ask Kentucky’s governor to reopen the investigation.
A group said Monday that it will ask Gov. Steve Beshear to form a panel of independent experts from across the country to take a fresh look at what caused the fire.
Rumors of arson linger despite a ruling that faulty wiring was the source of the fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
The survivors’ group contends investigators allowed the site to be cleared too soon and never seriously considered alternative causes.
The group gathered at Northern Kentucky University over the weekend to review files in the case. Kentucky State Police decided against reopening their investigation last year.
