A southwest Indiana firefighter died when the tanker truck he was driving crashed while en route to a fire, state police said.

Errett Miller, 43, of Staunton, assistant chief of the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, died Monday after he lost control of the tanker truck on a sharp curve on a county road, and the vehicle rolled several times, ejecting him, police said.

Miller, a 21-year veteran of the department, was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

Because Miller died in the line of duty, the State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate.
