Kan. firefighter dies in brush fire response

Volunteer Fire Captain Harold Reed, Sr., was overcome by smoke

PERU, Kan. — A Kansas firefighter died Sunday while fighting a brush fire.

Peru Fire District Volunteer Fire Captain Harold Reed, Sr., 74, was assisting in advancing hose lines when he was overcome by smoke, according to the USFA.

Captain Reed was treated and transported to Sedan City Hospital, but did not survive.

Donations in memory of Captain Reed may be sent to the First National Bank, 101 West Main Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
