SHREVEPORT, La. — A battalion safety officer at the Shreveport, La., Fire Department suffered a fatal heart attack Sunday evening.
Frankie Nelson, a 28-year veteran with the department, suffered the heart attack at about 9.40 p.m. Capt. Nelson, 51, had just completed a 24-hour work shift eight hours earlier.
He was transported to Schumpert Medical Center and was not able to be revived.
The previous night he carried out emergency response procedures that included incident command, EMS assistance, and traffic safety control measures at a motor vehicle incident.
