SUFFOLK, Va. — A man accused more than two weeks ago of setting his brother’s year-old pit bull on fire was arrested Saturday, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

Lashawn M. Harper , 28, was charged with animal cruelty, malicious wounding of an animal and arson. Harper fled after the original incident about 8:35 a.m. Oct. 6, in the 400 block of Webb St .

Police contend Harper set the dog on fire after an argument with his brother. The dog put out the fire by rolling on the grass and suffered minor burns to its face, neck and chest.

Harper is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, according to a jail spokeswoman.
