CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One man was killed and two firefighters injured Sunday night when a car collided with a stopped firetruck on Interstate 85 in north Charlotte.
The wreck happened about 9:30 p.m. on the northbound side of I-85, near the Graham Street exit.
The firetruck was stopped on the freeway to help at the scene of a minor traffic wreck, said Capt. Rob Brisley of the Charlotte Fire Department.
A short time later, the firetruck was struck from behind by another vehicle. The N.C. Highway Patrol said the driver of that vehicle was seriously injured and died later. He is identified as Zachary Terrell, 52, of Harrisburg.
Brisley said two firefighters on the truck suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. He said they are recovering at home.
Troopers are still investigating, in an effort to determine what caused the crash.
