LANCASTER, Pa. — Bicyclist Mike Ridgeway Monday morning placed a T-shirt and name tag of Capt. Daniel J. Brethel — a New York City firefighter killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers five years ago — along with a wreath at the county’s Public Safety Training Center.
Ridgeway, coordinator of the Dream Ride Projects bicycling program, and other bicyclists rode 437 miles over the weekend in memory of Brethel and the other 436 emergency personnel killed that day.
Brethel was the brother of one of Ridgeway’s friends.
Ridgeway himself rode 126 miles Saturday night and Sunday morning between times when he was supporting riders doing the Dream Ride 9/11, a 36-mile loop that included stops at three local fire stations.
Ridgeway said registration fees from the charity ride - totaling $437 - will be distributed to the three participating fire stations: Neffsville, West Hempfield and Lancaster City’s Station 3.
