WASHINGTON — Early-morning blazes kept area firefighters busy and sent five of them to the hospital in three separate incidents.
In Wheaton, two firefighters fell through a floor while battling a two-alarm house fire just before 5 a.m. Their injuries were minor. A third fighter and two other people suffered minor smoke inhalation.
In Laurel, two firefighters were burned just after 7:30 a.m. while battling a building fire in the 200 block of Washington Boulevard. The firefighters were taken to a burn center; their injuries also are believed to be minor.
