LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Firefighters Ron Guidetti and Vito W. Marra are now shadows of their former selves, and they like it that way.
Guidetti and Marra decided to support each other and had gastric bypass surgery at Monmouth Medical Center on March 22.
“Going through this together was a big plus,” Marra said. “We’d talk every day: What worked for you? What didn’t work? We’d try different things.”
Guidetti, 43, of Long Branch, and Marra, 52, of Oceanport, both have lost more than 100 pounds and are near their goal weights. Guidetti lost 125 pounds and went from a size 52 waist pair of pants to a size 36. “I’m doing great,” he said. “I’m still losing some weight, and I’m almost at my goal of 200 pounds.”
