TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - An off-duty Hillsborough County firefighter was attacked with a box cutter when he tried to stop another motorist from drinking and driving.
Benjamin Harrison, a 13-year veteran with the fire department, was driving when he noticed another vehicle swerving. Thinking the driver was drunk, Harrison called 911.
Deputies say once the two men had stopped, Harrison told 44-year-old Richard Martin Bruneau that something had fallen off his car. When Bruneau went to check, Harrison took Bruneau’s keys out of the ignition.
Authorities say Bruneau pulled out the box cutter, and slashed Harrison across the leg.
Bruneau was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held on $7,500 bail.
