FORT COBB, Okla. — An Okla. fire chief died Wednesday while driving to a fire.

Crow Roost Fire Department Chief Paul Johnson was operating a pumper truck en route to a structure fire in Edmond when he became ill and slumped over.

He managed to ask Fire Captain Cheri Poindexter to take over the rig as he was losing consciousness, and she radioed a Mayday call immediately after stopping the vehicle.

Another apparatus from the department stopped to render aid before an ambulance could transport Chief Johnson to a local hospital where he ultimately died.
