PHILADELPHIA — A 21-year-old Feltonville woman was killed yesterday inside her home during a morning fire that also displaced eight other occupants, fire and relief-agency officials said.
Medics tried to revive Shakima Mann, of F Street near Smylie Road, outside her home, but she was pronounced dead about 11 a.m., said Officer Jill Russell, a police spokeswoman. Mann was found in one of the bedrooms.
One unidentified 24-year-old occupant jumped from the two-story dwelling and was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, said Denise Venuti Free, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross. His condition was unknown.
The Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that the cause of the fire is “cooking,” said spokesman William Dell, a battalion chief. He declined to elaborate.
Firefighters were called to the residence about 10:50 a.m. and found heavy flames on the first and second floors, fire officials said.
The one-alarm fire was under control by 11:22 a.m.
The Red Cross is providing the remaining victims with clothes and shelter, Free said.
The homes on either side of the residence incurred minor damage, she said.
