NEW LENOX, Ill. — Part-time firefighters and paramedics in the New Lenox Fire Protection District have been voted out of a job by the fire board.
Fifty-four people, some of whom have been employed for more than 30 years, will be dismissed come June 1 after a Saturday vote to replace part-time workers with contract employees.
The decision follows the part-time workers’ efforts to organize a union.
Tim McDonald, vice president of Service Employees International Local 73, said an unfair labor practices complaint will be filed.
