VINTON, Va. — A retired Roanoke firefighter has died in a Vinton house fire.
The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s office says 60-year-old Kenneth Watson was killed in the Saturday night blaze.
The fire was first reported about 9:30 p.m. and brought down a power line on top of the house. That complicated the job for firefighters who responded.
After two searches of the home, firefighters found Watson’s body in the living room.
The cause of the fire was being investigated, but a woman who said she was a companion of Watson said a burnt cigarette was found nearby and that Watson used supplemental oxygen at night.
