SEOUL, South Korea — A blaze at a meat warehouse south of Seoul killed six people and injured two others Friday, South Korean officials said.

One worker was still missing hours after the fire broke out shortly after noon (0300GMT) at the warehouse in Icheon, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of the capital, Icheon fire official Ham Hyun-won said.

About 200 firefighters were battling the flames late Friday afternoon. Television footage showed dark clouds of smoke billowing from the gutted two-story building.

Workers had been welding in the warehouse basement at the time of the fire, but the exact cause of the blaze was not yet clear, Ham said.

Icheon is home to many warehouses. A similar warehouse fire in Icheon killed 40 people and injured 10 others in January.
