PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh-area police say an exotic dancer who left her two young sons home without a baby sitter before a fire broke out and killed them has surrendered.
Allegheny County police say Kiaira Pollard was a fugitive believed to be on the run with her girlfriend before she turned herself in Wednesday afternoon. Pollard faces criminal homicide and other charges in the children’s deaths.
KDKA-TV showed footage of Pollard crying. Attorney Fred Rabner says it’s a “tragic situation” and he’ll defend her “every step of the way.”
Investigators think the June 30 fire started accidentally near an air conditioner in a bedroom of Pollard’s apartment in North Versailles, just southeast of Pittsburgh. Pollard’s 4-year-old and 7-year-old sons were killed.
Police say Pollard pretended to call a baby sitter when she arrived at the scene.
