BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. — One of four volunteer firefighters who was accused of setting old buildings on fire earlier this year says they did it out of boredom so they would have fires to put out.
Alan Vinson, 19, and three other volunteers in Bell Buckle reached plea deals this month and were each sentenced to 2-4 years of probation.
“The whole thing was to go set them and put them out. It was not to damage or hurt anyone. It was just something for all of us to do,” Vinson told WTVF-TV in Nashville.
Vinson said he and Andrew Goodrich, John Bussard and Justin Haskins used diesel fire and paper to set fire to old buildings. Police said they believed the firefighters started at least three fires.
