DUMFRIES, Scotland — Gary Telfer, 44, collapsed at the scene of a car blaze in Troqueer, Dumfries, on Tuesday night.
Colleagues tried to resuscitate the married father-of-three, but were unsuccessful and he was taken to hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer David Wynne, paid tribute to the officer.
He described Mr. Telfer as a likeable and helpful man, while a Queen of the South representative said he “always had a smile on his face.”
