BOZRAH, Conn. — Two firefighters suffered minor injuries Tuesday night on their way to respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 2 around 9:30, fire officials said.
The firefighters dove over a guardrail to try to avoid being struck by a vehicle that hit the fire truck they were riding on, fire officials said. One firefighter was transported by ambulance to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich with non-life-threatening injuries while the other firefighter was treated at the scene, officials said. The elderly man driving the vehicle that hit the fire truck was not injured, officials said.
The fire truck, a 2,700 gallon tanker truck, was heavily damaged and will have to be returned to the manufacturer in Wisconsin to be repaired, fire officials said. The volunteer fire department will have to borrow tankers from neighboring fire departments in the meantime.
