HIGH WYCOMBE, England — Toddler James Ramsey found himself at the centre of a rescue operation after he got his favourite toy robot stuck on his foot.
Unable to remove the robot from her 22-month-old son’s foot mum Claire Desmond rushed James to hospital yesterday morning where the fire brigade was called.
The crew from High Wycombe saved the day after painstakingly removing the robot with a screwdriver from one of the tool kits from the fire engine.
Claire, 31, from Lindsay Avenue, High Wycombe said: “He was playing with it and all of a sudden he said, ‘Mummy it is stuck.’
“I tried to get it off but it wouldn’t move. He was getting quite upset as his foot had gone in this tiny little hole and it wouldn’t come out.”
Claire took James to Wycombe General Hospital leaving her six-month-old son Aaron with his dad James Ramsey and daughter Amy Goodwin, 6 was out with family.
Housewife Claire added: “We got to the hospital and they found it all quite amusing. They were all a bit shocked. The nurses and the fire brigade were brilliant.”
The hospital called the fire service and crew members including firefighter, Jo Foot, carefully screwed it off his foot.
Crew Manager Rob Green said: “The robot was about a foot square with an opening at the top and a number of flaps and compartments inside. The boy had put his foot through the opening and couldn’t get it out again.
“The boy was not injured and the robot was not damaged. He told us it was his favourite toy, so we were very careful with it.”
Claire added: “James thought it was quite funny. He got tearful when they tried to take it off. He didn’t seem too bothered though- as long as he got his robot back.
“He is quite mischievous- he is a typical boy. It is the first time something like this has happened though and I am sure it won’t be the last.”
For the moment Claire has decided to keep the robot away from James. She said: “I have left it in the car for now. I am frightened he is going to put his foot in it because he wants to see ‘Fireman Sam’ again.”
