LARSEN, Wis. — A Wisconsin fire chief died while attending a safety meeting, one day after responding to a vehicle fire, according to a report from the U.S. Fire Administration report.
Chief Dean Walter Mathison, 63, of the Clayton-Winchester, Wis., Fire Department, responded to an incident Monday and later assisted with clean up. The following day, while taking part in a regional fire department safety league, Chief Mathison was found unresponsive in a restroom. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Chief Mathison was a volunteer who had served for 42 years.
