NEW YORK — An FDNY firefighter was arrested this week after allegedly selling prescription pills in front of his firehouse.
Daniel Torres, 33, has been charged with conspiracy and criminal sale of a controlled substance, reported NBC New York. Torres also reportedly sold pills at a gas station near a school. His firehouse is also three blocks from a child care center.
Torres, an eight-year veteran, is being held on $25,000 after a hearing on Tuesday. He has been suspended without pay, reported the New York Daily News.
Officials said Torres sold Xanax and Vicodin through a system of calls and text messages. Prosecutors allege in one sale, Torres sold over 160 tablets of Vicodin and 28 tablets of Xanax. They also allege that Torres provided a customer with a sample of heroin.
“These are very serious charges, that — if true — will result in his termination as a firefighter,” FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
The NYPD, DEA, state police and New York Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Strike Force conducted the investigation.
