BOGALUSA, La. — A firefighter was charged with second-degree rape, one month after an arrest for extortion.

Brandon Applewhite, 36 was arrested on May 4 and charged with “non-consensual release of a private picture, extortion and malfeasance in office,” WDSU reported. Applewhite was released on the same day after posting a $20,000 bond.

On June 7, Applewhite’s home was searched, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He turned himself in to Washington Parish Jail, and was released the same day after posting a $75,000 bond.

“This is a complex case of manipulation involving several females,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said in a statement. “I compliment detectives from both agencies for their outstanding work in investigating this case and obtaining a warrant for Applewhite’s arrest.”
