BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge firefighters battled a pair of fires in Baton Rouge overnight, both deemed to be arson and one sending a firefighter to an area hospital.

BRFD responded to the first fire just before 11 p.m. Friday night at an apartment building at 12528 Warfield Avenue. A firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening injury on scene.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke coming out of the front of the building, and contained the fire, which was deemed intentional, within a vacant apartment. The fire was under control after about 30 minutes, and caused about $50,000 in damage, according to BRFD.

Firefighters responded to a second fire, this time at 2397 Virginia Street, at about 12:26 a.m., finding the home completely engulfed in flames. The fire was under control after about 40 minutes, but the home was deemed a total loss.

The second fire was also deemed arson, BRFD said.

Anyone with information about either fire is asked to call Baton Rouge Fire Department Investigators at 225-354-1419.
