CHICAGO — A Chicago firefighter received a slap in the face Monday for simply doing his job.
The firefighter had stopped traffic to accommodate a rig that was reversing into a station, when a woman on a bike attempted to pass, reported dnainfo.com.
Maegan Kurtz, 26, engaged in a verbal altercation with the firefighter when he refused to let her pass, resulting in Kurtz allegedly slapping him. Court records show the firefighter pushed Kurtz away following the slap, and she fell to the ground.
“I do not take lightly the fact that an officer tells someone to stay out of the way, and the response is to get slapped in the face,” Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas said Wednesday.
Kurtz’s bail is set at $25,000. She is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer.
The firefighter was treated and released from a hospital for a laceration on his face.
