FLINT, Mich. — Flint will have to lay off 39 firefighters and close two fire stations if it does not get nearly $8 million over the next two years through a federal grant city officials are seeking.
The city is asking for more than $7.9 million through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant.
“Flint’s dependent on a number of important grants and SAFER is the largest,” said Mayor Dayne Walling. “Flint is receiving more than $8 million in grant funds on an annual basis for public safety and it’s critical to our community that those grants are renewed.
