SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento city firefighter Alex Galang experienced his first day back at work on Monday, 10 months after he was burned battling a house blaze.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the Colonial Heights neighborhood about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 12. Two of the firefighters, including Galang, fell into the basement when the fire caused the first floor to give way from under their feet.

The third firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. Galang remained in the UC Davis burn unit the longest.

He hopes to return to full-time duty in January. Galang said in a department video posted on Facebook that it was awesome to be back on the job.
