2 Ariz. firefighters burned battling house fire

One firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to 15 percent of his body; the other suffered burns to his arms and hands

PHOENIX — Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire Wednesday afternoon.

Fox10Phoenix reported that one firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to 15 percent of his body. A second firefighter was burned trying to rescue his fellow firefighter. He suffered burns to his arms and hands.

Both firefighters were taken to a local burn center.

“A firefighter was laying in the grass area, they pulled him out of there, people were underneath trying to see what was going on,” said Jarvis Johnson, who was watching across the street when he heard them call out that a firefighter was down.

A fire investigator remained on scene of the vacant house trying to determine the cause, according to the report.

“It is heartbreaking, you feel for their families, but you know that the person is tough ... I know that they are going to return to the field, make a speedy recovery,” said a Glendale Fire spokesperson.
