Floyd County, Ky. — Late last year, 72-year-old Jim Caldwell was diagnosed with cancer.
Following months of treatment, the fire chief died Friday. His fellow firefighters say Caldwell helped start the Cow Creek Volunteer Fire Department more than 30 years ago.
“We had bake sales, we had hot dogs, hamburgers. We worked all the festivals just to get money for the fire department” says Cow Creek Volunteer firefighter, Eddie Burchett. Eddie Burchett recalls fond memories of Caldwell at the beginning of their firefighting days.
