Texas firefighter beats leukemia, back on job

After a July 2015 diagnosis, doctors expected Miller to be fighting fire no earlier than October; he was hoping for this summer and beat both expectations

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — When College Station firefighter Ben Miller was diagnosed with leukemia in July, he was determined to power through treatment and become well again.

On Wednesday, the driver-engineer took to the trucks again, back to full firefighting duties just nine months after his diagnosis.

Over the past few months, Miller has been transcending recovery expectations. In January, he returned to work with the fire department on light duty — mainly handling paperwork and attending classroom training.
