SEYMOUR, Tenn. — Firefighters take on the mission of rushing to your home while flames are tearing through, committed to saving lives and protecting property.
Many East Tennessee fire stations are operated by volunteers, but the state says that number is on the decline. WATE 6 On Your Side wanted to know how volunteer departments make it work and if having a full-time roster would pay off when it comes to saving your home.It always happens to somebody else, but on January 31, 2014, “It happened to me,” said Charlie Dunlap of Seymour.
Dunlap’s home caught on fire around 4 a.m. that day. The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames.
