PHILADELPHIA — Three people are dead following an early morning fire in North Philadelphia, according to fire officials.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m. on the 1700 block of North 6th street, and spread to a neighboring row home before fire crews were able to put it out.
Fire commissioner Adam Thiel said a 9-year-old boy was rescued from the fire and taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Two other people, a 52-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy, were found dead by fire crews.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire, and Thiel said it was too early to know if there were working fire detectors in the home.
Last Sunday, three people were killed in an early morning fire in a home in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia.
