BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Gunfire erupted in the city on Thursday and was called into the dispatch center by firefighters who were nearby for a collision.

Fire units were at Noble and Edna avenues around 6 p.m. for a crash. There were apparently no serious injuries involved.

And about an hour later, fire personnel were still on scene for the crash when the sound of gunfire burst through the summer air, leaving a car damaged by bullets but no one seriously injured.

A firefighter alerted the dispatcher, saying 10 shots had been fired, adding, “You better get PD here ... Don’t know where the shooter is,” reports indicated.

The firefighters assessed the area and though there was initially belief that someone was shot, no one was.

“There were shots fired at the location of the car accident, but no one was hit,” said police spokesman Av Harris.

An officer who responded for the shooting reported finding at least one shell casing at Noble Avenue and Crown Street, just on the outskirts of Beardsley Park.

Harris said police remained at the scene to investigate the shooting.

At 7:18 p.m. someone called 911 for shots fired in the 1100 block of Pembroke Street. An officer that investigated found nothing and spoke to people outside who said they hadn’t heard gunshots.
