GLOCESTER, R.I. — A firefighter appeared in court Tuesday accused of assaulting two R.I. police officers following an off-duty crash.
William R. Cline, 51, of Douglas, Mass., was charged with felony assault on a police officer, simple assault on a police officer, driving under the influence of liquor, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct, according to MetroWest Daily News.
Officers called to the scene of a crash in Glocester at around midnight Tuesday found Cline next to his pickup truck, which had struck a bridge. The report said that when one officer tried to assist Cline, he was assaulted, and Cline fled.
Following a brief chase, Cline was arrested after assaulting a second officer, sending him to the hospital, according to the article. The officer was treated and released.
