PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A fire crew got to reunite with a boy they helped save after he fell unconscious at his home.
Komo News reported that Michael Lentell, 4, became unconscious at his home in November.
“Tried to wake him up, rouse him, not responding,” Michael’s dad, Brion, said about what happened when he found Michael at the top of the stairs.
Michael’s mom, Stephanie, began performing CPR while Brion called 911.
“The most terrifying thing I’ve ever done was CPR on my 4-year-old,” Stephanie said.
A South Kitsap Fire and Rescue crew responded and helped revive Michael, who was later diagnosed with Long QT syndrome, a heart disorder that causes fast, chaotic heartbeats.
Michael and his family recently made a trip to the fire station to meet the firefighters who saved him.
“It was incredible,” Stephanie said. “I underestimated the emotional impact facing these firefighters would have, but to be able to personally thank them and have them meet Michael was amazing.”
Stephanie added that she thought it was important to visit with the firefighters because they don’t usually get to see what happens after their job is done.
“They met him on the worst day of his life. They met us on the worst day of our life,” Stephanie said. “I think that they need to be able to see the smile that they helped bring back and make sure it stayed in our life and gets to be a 4-year-old and gets to grow up.”
