CUMBERLAND, Md. — Three false fire alarms to the Allegany County 911 Emergency Center last month resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old Cumberland man, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Yancy Ezra Sheridon Bailey was arrested Friday following a month-long investigation by local state fire investigators and the C3I Unit into false alarms about woods fires on July 25 and 26 and a false report of a vehicle fire involving a tractor-trailer on July 31, according to the fire marshal’s office.
Bailey was served an arrest warrant charging him with three counts of false alarm. If convicted of the charges, Bailey could be sentenced to a prison term of up to 15 years and fines up to $15,000.
Bailey remained jailed Saturday without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending bail review in district court.
State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci said, “Causing a false alarm is not only against the law, it puts people at risk of injury. Responding personnel could potentially be involved in an accident when responding tor or leaving the scene and it could result in a delayed response to a real accident and/or other medical emergency.”
“People who cause false alarms should be held legally responsible for any harm that comes from their act,” he said.
