ODESSA, Texas — A former Odessa Fire/Rescue firefighter was arrested one day after he resigned on accusations that he sexually abused a girl for the past six or seven years.

Clayton Allen Blount, a 30-year-old firefighter who resigned Wednesday after two years with the department, was arrested by the Ector County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshal’s Service today on two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a child, two counts of second-degree indecency with a child and a single count of first-degree continuous sexual abuse of children.

The case came to light Sunday when a 12-year-old girl told an employee of a church that a known person had reportedly been sexually abusing her for several years. The girl was interviewed Wednesday at a child advocacy center regarding her statements and Odessa police learned the suspected abuse had been going on when the girl was 5 or 6 years old, the Odessa Police Department reported.

Five warrants had been issued for Blount’s arrest and he was arrested.
