LOS ANGELES — A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a Los Angeles Fire Department battalion command fleet vehicle and leading police on a pursuit Friday afternoon.

Police say the LAFD vehicle was parked in the downtown area when it was stolen, according to KTLA. Police tracked the vehicle through its GPS transponder and began to pursue the suspect.

About 50 minutes after the truck was first stolen, the truck was pulled into a parking lot and the man driving surrendered without further incident. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.

LAFD officials said at least one of the vehicle’s tires was damaged during the incident, and that the vehicle will be repaired before returning to service.

The LAFD and LAPD are investigating the incident.
